Individual Therapy

Some of the objectives of individual therapy is to assist in identifying and creating healthier patterns for oneself and in relationships. It involves exploring the factors that prevent you from achieving self-realization, progress, and recovery.

The initial step is to consider therapy and invest in your personal development. Through developing positive relationships, challenging negative thoughts that result in unconstructive behaviors, and acquiring new coping mechanisms, you can embark on a journey towards well-being, recovery, and better balance in life.

This will enhance your self-awareness, self-acceptance, emotional control, and ability to bounce back from challenges.

Benefits from Individual Therapy

  • Centered feelings of joy and peace

  • Learn to love yourself

  • Create healthy work and life balance

  • Confidently approach decisions

  • Enhance personal relationships

  • Moving forward from the past

Trauma Therapy

Perhaps you have suffered attachment trauma because a caregiver was not able to meet your emotional and physical needs consistently, maybe you grew up with little environmental/social attunement that made it difficult for you to self-soothe as a child, or you have experienced immediate/isolated incidents of trauma.

Often, people believe that trauma is the negative consequence of experiencing severely distressing events like domestic violence, sexual assault, or witnessing violence or death and developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, individuals with attachment injuries/trauma often struggle with poor/low intrinsic self-value, “not feeling important,” have difficulties with boundaries, fear/anxiety responses, and relationships seem to need more effort in one way or another. There are multiple forms of trauma.

Many of us have experienced traumatic reactions to situations that may seem to be “smaller.” Still, they may have been more personal and hidden and may have occurred on an ongoing and long-term basis. “Big T Trauma” can sometimes be referred to as acute traumatic incidents. Still, cumulative moments of constant personal distress/confusion may gather multiple “Little T Traumas. These can create lasting trauma responses. Complex “hidden” trauma can often go unnoticed and invalidated.

Complex trauma can include symptoms and experiences related to physical and emotional responses such as racing thoughts, physical symptoms, a sense of high stress/easily overwhelmed, anxiety, and episodes of depressive symptoms. Sometimes, you may not be sure what triggered this. Perhaps you have happy childhood memories, which makes even less sense, but something was missing. Maybe you have noticed some thought patterns/behavioral patterns that are hard to adjust. Whatever your story is, trauma therapy can help you regain your power.

EMDR: Eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing help you become “unstuck” from memories, whether they are single crisis events or a series of relational wounds that lead to your present-day emotional struggles. EMDR is meant to help alleviate distress associated with traumatic experiences/memories. The approach involved bilateral sensory input, such as eye movements.

IFS: Internal Family Systems, often called “PARTs work,” is an evidence-based psychotherapy that can help you find healing by creating inner and outer connectedness. IFS is a therapy approach that has been helpful to clients who have struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues.

Adult Family Therapy

In situations where a family experiences a major change in composition or has to cope with a member's physical or mental health struggles, family therapy can be highly beneficial.

Additionally, day-to-day issues like personality conflicts can also be addressed through family therapy. By collaborating with a therapist, a family can identify and establish patterns for a more harmonious dynamic, empathize with each other's experiences and perspectives, and set individual and family goals.

Through challenging ineffective patterns, validating each other's experiences, and redefining roles, a family can experience increased love, support, respect, and connection. While each family's struggles are unique, some common reasons for attending therapy include those mentioned above.

Benefits from Adult Family Therapy

  • Learn to differentiate and understand development vs. behavioral issues or mental health concerns

  • Enhance and strengthen the overall relationships between one another

  • Feel more connected as a family

  • Improve communication strategies and listening skills so all members can fully express themselves

  • Understand healthy boundaries and expectations

  • Understand how circumstances affect each family member

  • Increase assertive communication that emphasizes respect

Group Family Therapy

This program is specifically designed for families who are struggling with stressors related to having a loved one undergoing treatment or having mental health issues.

The program runs for 8 weeks and aims to equip family members with the necessary skills to cope with emotional and mental challenges.

The program also focuses on improving communication skills, setting healthy boundaries, understanding family dynamics, and rebuilding trust within the family system.

The program's objective is to provide education and support to family members as their loved ones heal from mental illnesses or substance abuse. The program includes intensive process groups, where the facilitator addresses current issues. frequently asked questions

  • JL Therapy is considered an out-of-network provider and accepts self-pay only. The majority of clients with insurance are eligible for reimbursement or a portion of the fees from their insurance company.

We do NOT accept insurance for several valid reasons. It simplifies your experience.

Upon request, we can provide a detailed invoice or "superbill" for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What does this mean for you?

By NOT accepting insurance we can ensure the work we do together stays between JL Therapy and you. It means that your treatment can be paced in ways that are governed by your needs and timeline - not by the insurance company’s needs or timeline. There is no need for referrals or multiple administrative appointments to figure out coverage, billing or insurance company’s complex processes.

The benefit of no insurance also means not having to provide a written diagnosis from your primary care physician to seek treatment.

    This simplifies your experience.

    • How will I be reimbursed?

    • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

    • What is my deductible and has it been met?

    • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

    • Are there any restrictions regarding the type of therapy or the practitioner’s credentials?

    • Are there any other restrictions I should know about, or any other questions I should be asking?

Upon request I can provide you with a reimbursement document/’superbill’ to submit to your insurance company. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider about the dynamics to accepting an out-of-network provider.

  • We believe the following structure provides the best results.

However, JL Therapy will work with you to develop a plan that best meets your needs. Longer sessions can be arranged as needed and are recommended for biweekly appointments.
